How to Use the Pathfinder Tool

This step by step manual will teach you how to correctly utilise the pathfinder tool in illustrator.
This tool, amongst other things, let's you use an object to cut a hole into another object. Once you do this, the path acts as grouped objects.


Step 1: We're going to cut the yellow shape's overlap from the black shape.


Step 2: Go to Window -> Pathfinder


Step 3: This dialogue box will pop up. Drag your cursor over the shapes to select both.


Step 4: Click the minus tool that I can be seen hovering over in the image above.
